The celebrations to mark the sterling service of former Raith Rovers goalkeeper and fan favourite David McGurn will begin with an exhibition pool tournament in Kirkcaldy in October.

McGurn left Raith in the summer to join Cowdenbeath, but after eight years and over 200 appearances at the club a series of testimonial events are to be held in his honour.

Part one, The David McGurn Pool Day, takes place on Sunday, October 2 and will feature two teams - one made up of Raith players and the other of supporters – who will go head to head at Styx Pool Hall.

Organiser John Greer said: “We felt this was a good way for fans to interact with Davie, and some of his former team mates.”

McGurn added: “The Raith fans were brilliant with me. I want to thank them for all the support I’ve had over the years and I think the pool day will be a great occasion to do that.”

McGurn’s testimonial match is due to take place at Stark’s Park next spring against opposition yet to be confirmed.
