New boss Martin looking to build on good foundations at Glens

A behind the scenes disagreement saw Andrews leave the Warout Stadium club after the penalty shoot-out win over Lochore Welfare in the East of Scotland Cup on Saturday.

Glens moved quickly to appoint Martin (31), who is in his sixth season with the club, as the new player-boss.

Martin admitted he was disappointed by the circumstances, but is keen to continue the good work of his predecessor.

“I have been left a good foundation to build on,” Martin told the Gazette. “It’s unfortunate that this has happened but there’s a good bunch of boys here that will keep the ship moving.

“It’s come sooner than I expected - I’m only 31 and still learning - but I trust the players, and they trust me.

“We’ve just got to step up to the mark and keep the momentum going after three wins on the bounce.”

Martin has drafted in ex-player Willie Campbell to help with coaching while he has also sought advice from Kelty Hearts player-boss Tam Courts.

“The same thing happened to him at Kelty when he took it on quite young so he’s been passing on some good advice,” Martin added.

Martin’s first match in charge is a tricky East Premier League fixture away to Downfield on Saturday.

Kennoway Star Hearts travel to Arniston Rangers, while Thornton Hibs visit Newburgh.
