Newburgh’s pace was causing the Sauchie defence problems and the opening goal of the game came from a quick break out of defence by the home side.

Andy Cameron lifted a pass forward from midfield over the Sauchie defence who were holding a very high line, Harry Galloway took a superb first touch and drove forward supported by Scott Sutherland.

A delightful through ball from the outside of Galloway’s foot found Sutherland with just Houston to beat, Sutherland lifted his head and slid the ball beyond the Sauchie keeper into the net giving Newburgh the early advantage.

Sauchie were finding it difficult to create chances with Newburgh’s back line well marshalled by Kirkham and Cameron.

Sauchie were reduced to ten men with an hour played.

Scott Sutherland whose pace had been troubling the defence whenever he broke was pulled back as he advanced into the 18 yard box with just the keeper to beat.

The referee showed a straight red card to Sauchie defender Atkins and awarded Newburgh a free kick just outside the 18 yard box.

Sauchie loaded the wall expecting a strike at goal from Galloway. The free kick was taken sideways into the path of the un-marked Sutherland who made no mistake from 10 yards.

Sauchie pushed hard as the game entered the last five minutes.

With time running out, Ryan Kinnes dropped deeper and it was looking more likely that Newburgh would keep the clean sheet until a well struck shot was deflected by an outstretched leg over Calum Sutherland to give the visitors a consolation goal.

Newburgh: C Sutherland, Wight, Scarborough, Cameron (Bell 75), Kirkham, Kinnes, Fraser, Edwards (Hastie 78), Galloway, S Sutherland, Annandale (English 68).
