Making their competitive debuts for Newburgh in the starting line-up were Nyass, signed from Kinnoull and Redpath signed from Pittenweem Rovers.

Both sides took some time to blow the cobwebs away with no real cohesion in their playing the opening 15 minutes. The first chance of the game fell to Sutherland who managed accelerated away from the Lochore defence only to be pulled back for a harshly judged offside.

Newburgh’s first goal came from the penalty spot in the 18th minute. A hand ball in the area presented Scott Sutherland with the opportunity to open Newburgh’s scoring.

Sutherland stroked a well hit penalty into the net to give Newburgh the lead

Lochore started the second half well with Kirkham and Clark being called upon early to thwart Lochore’s frontline.

The final 10 minutes of the game found Newburgh adding two goals, the first a world class free kick from debutant Reece Redpath who, from 20 yards, lifted a free kick over the wall and dip into the top corner.

The final goal of the game was scored with three minutes to go when another driving run from Ben Scarborough out of defence was not stopped.

Scarborough beat two men in midfield and drove towards the Lochore 18-yard box. A whipped left foot cross took a deflection off Lochore’s centre back beyond the keeper.

Newburgh manager Scott Hudson said: “We took the game to Lochore from the off and played some nice football through out the team. I was really pleased how all of the new lads played, they all fitted in really very well.”

Newburgh are scheduled to face Stirling University on Wednesday before travelling to Burntisland Shipyard on Saturday.

Newburgh: C Sutherland, Johal, Scarborough (Findlay 82), Clark, Kirkham, Nyass (Murdoch 45), Hutchison, Redpath, S Sutherland, Edwards (Robinson 62), Gay.
