The First Division Conference B side took the plunge over the summer and made the call to leave the junior ranks for the seniors.

It was an ambitious move for a side which had battled at the wrong end of the division during the junior days.

But Newburgh showed huge signs of improvement last season and have continued that into their maiden campaign in the seniors.

A 3-0 opening day win at home to Lochore Welfare set a standard the side was, unfortunately, unable to live up to a few days later when they went down 5-3 at Stirling University.

But the sign of a good side is its ability to respond in the right manager and Newburgh did that on Saturday, seeing off Burntisland Shipyard 4-2 away from home.

Reflecting on both games, manager Hudson said: “Having Saturday’s game so quickly after the Stirling game helped us as we said we wanted to draw a line under that performance and make things right.

“The squad were disappointed with Wednesday and it showed today against Burntisland.”

Newburgh welcome Eyemouth United to East Shore Park on Saturday.
