St Andrews United were looking to build on their confidence building cup win over Bo’ness when they travelled to Broughty in the Super League.
Ian Barret’s side are aiming to push away from the relegation zone but missed out on the chance to secure another three points.
Broughty started the match like an express train and took an early lead and dominated most of the first half.
The second half belonged to the visitors and only a goal line clearance two minutes from time allowed the home team to complete the league double over United for the second consecutive season.
It took Broughty only seven minutes to score when Paul Lunan crossed and KevinBuchan headed the ball past keeper Darren Clarkson from a few yards
Broughty continued to dominate the first half, but wasted a number of decentopportunities in front of goal.
United brought on Barry Sibanda at half time and reverted to two central strikers.
A good passing move that involved Sam Buchan, Barry Sibanda and Jamie McNeish resulted in a close in shot from the ex Kirkcaldy Y.M. right back that found the side net.
The visitors had an opportunity to equalise after 70minutes when a long ball came off the head of a home defender, but Sam Buchan was unable to punish Broughty.
The closest United came to an equaliser was after 88 minutes when BarrySibanda fired a shot that beat keeper Iain Ross, but Jonathan Smartcleared the ball from the goal line.
The home team held on for threevaluable points, as they strive to push up the league table.
