No use giving sides a head start says Scott

Bayview midfielder Scott Robinson is calling on the Fifers to get out of the habit of giving sides a head start.

The Methil men conceded first again at the weekend as they were beaten by Brechin City at Bayview.

It follows on from recent games against Alloa, Arbroath, Forfar, Peterhead and Dundee already this season where the Fifers have shipped first.

Robinson reckons it’s about time the Bayview club got off to a better start in games and give themselves something to build on.

He said: “We can’t keep giving teams head starts and having to score two or three goals in every game just to get a point.

“Two goals against Brechin would only have got us a point, the same as it did with Albion Rovers.

“It’s not good enough defensively.”

Had the Fifers managed to keep all three points at Bayview at the weekend, Robinson believes that would have signalled a pleasing start to the league season going into the weekend’s Irn-Bru Cup tie at Alloa.

But it’s early days, and the Methil club are still optimistic about the challenges ahead this term.

“If we’d beaten Brechin it’s a really good start,” he said.

“Throughout pre-season and in the Betfred Cup I thought we looked really strong defensively.

“But a couple of individual mistakes have crept in here and there.

“The gaffer has had a word with a few of the boys and I’m sure will speak to us again privately.

“But if we can get rid of these mistakes then we’ll going to be alright.”
