Following the First Minister’s announcement earlier in the week, which re-introduced some of the stricter Covid-19 guidance we lived under during the spring, there was some expectation that football matches may be put on a short term hiatus.

However, clubs themselves were quick to clarify the position and say that their fixtures appear, at this stage, to be unaffected by the move into a new lockdown.

Since football has resumed, all clubs have been recognising new Covid-19 safety measures both at training and on matchdays to try and keep the various leagues up and running.

These can include teams using different changing areas and the use of shower facilities being closed.

Tayport, who are preparing to welcome Lochee United on Saturday, said: “As it stands at the moment, the fixtures for this week will proceed as normal as there has been no word from the SFA or SJFA.

“All associations that come under the professional game that were authorised to play are continuing to do so until told otherwise.”

The Scottish FA confirmed that there are exemptions in place for professional football relating to playing, training and travel.

Newburgh, who play in the East of Scotland League, will also take to the park again this weekend when they resume their league campaign at home to Luncarty.

The match will, of course, be played behind closed doors.

Newburgh told supporters: “We look forward to welcoming Luncarty to East Shore park this weekend for our first fixture in 2021.

“With current restrictions no fans are allowed to attend but you can follow the match updates on the ‘USQOR app’ which can be downloaded from you phone’s app provider free of charge.”

Of course, while our clubs do have permission to play, that doesn’t mean they will, with cold weather expected to decimate the fixture card.
