Ovenstone aiming to build on '˜Nitten victory

The Canniepairt outfit remain at the foot of the table, but the victory at Newtongrange has moved them to within touching distance of local rivals Broughty Athletic and St Andrews United.

Manager John Ovenstone was delighted with his troops, saying: “There were lots of positives.

“The players did exactly what was asked of them and proved to everyone that they are more than capable of competing in the top flight. Newtongrange are a good side with an expensive squad and they never looked like scoring against us in the second half.”

Overall, Ovenstone was pleased with the disciplined, professional performance, although he did add that Connaire Connelly had let himself down with the poor challenge which resulted in a red card, towards the end of the game.

“That apart, the only negative was that we didn’t convert enough of our chances as the scoreline could have been much more emphatic.

“The forwards worked really hard though and just a little more composure was needed.”

The boss has targeted another three points against Penicuik, but he will be forced into a couple of changes to his starting XI.

Connelly will miss out due to suspension.
