Paul returns to East Shore as '˜Burgh get their man

A familiar face will return to East Shore Park,,with Paul Martin taking the reigns.

Martin is a former assistant manager at Newburgh.

He’ll be assisted by Kurt Herd.

A spokesman for the club, who currently sit second bottom of the McBookie.com North Division, said: “ Having looked over the applications and carrying out interviews the job offer was made to Paul Martin and Kurt Herd, both of whom have accepted.

“Newburgh’s committee are delighted to have secured Paul and Kurt’s services to take the team on a permanent basis.

“Paul has recently been coaching at Kinnoull in Perth and has a wealth of senior and junior experience under his belt having previously worked with Kirkcaldy YM, Newburgh (as assistant manager), Arbroath Sporting Club and several other clubs throughout his career.

“Kurt is an exciting young coaching talent who is currently the coach of the successful Abertay University team.”

Herd guided theuni team to the BUCS 1A division title this year in the highly competitive university league.

He has coached previously in Sweden, Australia and New Zealand. In addition he also played football for a year in Australia and New Zealand.

The new manager was introduced to the squad before training this week and will be in the dug out tomorrow (Saturday) when ‘Burgh host Downfield.

The spokesman added: “Paul and Kurt intend to add to the coaching team over the coming weeks with a view to having a full dugout prior the start of pre-season.

“The club is looking forwards to progressing under the new team and give them their full backing. These are exciting times at Newburgh and the appointment of this new management team is exactly the mix of experience and fresh ideas that we were looking for to take the team into next season.”
