Last Saturday saw Tayport produce a positive display to secure another three crucial league points at the expense of visiting Whitburn.

In the opening stages of their East Premier League encounter at the Canniepairt, Ross curled a shot over the top and Dale Robertson saw an effort easily saved by ‘keeper Horne, who also saved a Reid strike.

The visiting custodian then denied Ross and Reid with a double save, before ‘Port finally made the breakthrough.

After 32 minutes, Dale Reid raced clear down the left flank and tucked away a fine right-footed finish, beating Horne at the near post, and Tayport would lead at the break.

In the second half, the Canniepairt outfit began to increase the pressure towards the hour mark, culminating in a goal for Liam Ross – his first for the club – when he stabbed home a loose ball following a corner kick.

Dale Reid almost added to the tally, but was initially blocked by Horne, before turning and shooting against the woodwork.

With quarter of an hour remaining, Whitburn were handed something of a lifeline.

Daniel Sanchez conceded a penalty kick and Martin Russell scored from the spot, setting up what could have been a nervy conclusion to the match.

Fortunately for the hosts, the two-goal cushion was soon restored.

Dale Reid took down a high ball, evaded the ‘keeper and slotted past a covering defender and into the corner of the net, making it 3-1 to the on-song ‘Port.
