Manager Dave Baikie was left seething by Tayport’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Arniston Rangers at the weekend.

The Canniepairt gaffer said his side had failed to show the qualities which have helped see Tayport fight at the top end of the table this season.

Arniston have been struggling this term in the East Premier League and arrived at Tayport having won just one away game so far this campaign.

“It was a very, very poor performance,” commented the ’Port gaffer Baikie.

“It seemed like we were second to every ball and couldn’t string two passes together for much of the game.

“The first goal we gave away was due to an individual error and we continued to give the ball away throughout the match.”

After scoring seventeen goals in their last five matches, Baikie was disappointed with his side’s attacking display.

Tayport haven’t been finding goals hard to come by this season but at the weekend lost the cutting edge associated with the side.

“We huffed and puffed but didn’t have any real quality in our play,” added Baikie.

“Arniston, on the other hand, looked much more comfortable on the ball and the pace of their forward, Kataleza, caused us problems all afternoon.

“All in all, it was a disappointing day.”

With Edinburgh United losing to Glenrothes, a win would have taken Tayport into second place in the East Premier League table.

Instead they slipped down to fifth, overtaken by Dundonald Bluebell and Dalkeith Thistle.

There is the consolation that the Canniepairt outfit have games in hand on all of the teams above them so points are still available to be picked up.

But they will not have the opportunity to add to their points tally until the January 10 as no official matches will be played in the East Region over the festive period.

Tayport will look to bounce back into winning ways when they welcome west Fife side Oakley United who’ll first foot the Canniepairt in the New Year fixture.

But boss Baikie may have fixed up a couple of friendly fixtures for his team as he looks to keep things ticking over across the league’s festive closedown.
