‘Port once again beaten by weather

Grant Lawson will be looking to fire Tayport to victory at the weekend.

In common with most fixtures, Tayport’s East Premier League game against Bathgate Thistle was postponed last weekend.

This resulted in ‘Port being forced into cold storage for a second successive Saturday.

However, with the game looking like it was going to struggle to be played during the early part of last week, both clubs did everything in their power to get it played.

The match was originally scheduled to take place at Creamery Park in Bathgate, but a decision was taken late in the week to switch the game to the Canniepairt to give it more chance of going ahead.

Unfortunately, freezing overnight temperatures meant that Tayport’s pitch was also unplayable so the efforts to get their game played were wiped out.

Weather-permitting, Tayport’s final competitive fixture of 2014 will take place tomorrow (Saturday) when Arniston Rangers come to town on league duty.

‘Arnie’ were prominent in the early years of the East Region Super League and had several entertaining tussles with Tayport, especially at Newbyres Park.

The Gorebridge outfit have, however, endured a tough spell of late and they are battling to remain in what is the second tier of the East Region set-up.

They are currently 14th in the 16-team division, with 16 points from 15 matches.

Rangers have struggled away from Newbyres Park, although they did win at Oakley in mid-September.

Dave Baikie will certainly not be treating the opposition lightly and will have his players fired up and looking for a continuation of the recent winning run.

The ‘Port support will be hoping that the enforced lay-off will not result in a loss of momentum and that the team can continue its goal-scoring form.

Tayport were not the only side struggling to get some competitive action last weekend.

Across the Kingdom, only one match was played.

Local rivals St Andrews United, determined not to be caught out by the cold snap, played a friendly with Pittenweem Rovers during the week, winning 6-0.

Kick-off at the Canniepairt is scheduled for 1.30pm and supporters should phone the Tayport F.C newsline, on 01382 552755, for confirmation that the game will go ahead.
