Newburgh’s promotion push faltered when they recorded their first league defeat on the road this season.
Newburgh fielded an un-changed line up from the previous week’s narrow loss to Dundee North End.
The breakthrough came on the 12th minute when a poor clearance from the Vics’ ‘keeper was pounced upon by the livewire McLeish who slotted the ball home.
The Vic’s equaliser came three minutes later when a defence splitting pass and a slip by Davidson allowed Watson to net
Arbroath made the breakthrough when Watson rose in front of McAdam at the back post to convert a hanging long ball.
A change in shape for Newburgh paid dividends on the 74th minute with McLeish picked up a flicked on cross to head home.
Newburgh pressed for the third and committed mend forward from midfield in an effort to secure the points.
It was from the penalty spot that the home side retook the lead on the 84th minute when McAdam had been adjudged to have committed a foul in the box.
Njie stepped up and slotted the ball home.
Newburgh’s desire to push forward again cost them with Davidson committing a foul inside the penalty box.
The referee also deemed the tackle a straight red card offence and sent the defender off.
Njie again converted.
Boss Graham Nicoll said: “The dressing room was a very flat place after the game as the boys know the game was there to be won.
“We will get together at training and re-invigorate them for the game against Kennoway Star Hearts.
“I have stressed to them that a win against Kennoway gets us right back in the hunt for the promotion place remaining.”
Kick off at East Shore Park is 2.30p.m.
