Raith find out fixtures in revamped League Cup

The Kirkcaldy side will also come up against Cove Rangers, Montrose and Alloa in the ‘regionalised’ Group D.

The geographical split, which saw the country’s teams divided into north and south sections, sparked much debate among supporters who face the possibility of long journeys.

The format, however, is sure to provide excitement with every match decided on the night - drawn matches will be settled by a penalty shoot-out with a bonus point awarded to the winner.

The eight group winners and the four best runners-up will join European entrants Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibernian in the last 16 of the competition.

Rovers’ opening group fixture, and new manager Gary Locke’s first competitive match in charge, will be a trip to Allan Park to face Highland League champions Cove on Saturday, July 16.

Raith then face Montrose at Stark’s Park on Tuesday, July 19, before travelling to Dingwall to face the holders on Sunday, July 24.

The group section will be completed at home to Alloa on Saturday, July 30.

The club meanwhile fixed up two preseason friendlies this week.

Rovers will travel to face League One side Brechin City at Glebe Park on Saturday, July 2, kick off 2.00 p.m.

Raith will then face Premiership opposition in the shape of Partick Thistle at Stark’s Park on Tuesday, July 5 at 7.45 pm.

Admission prices will be £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
