Raith Rovers aim for second as Dundee come to Kirkcaldy

Raith Rovers John McGlynn has backed his team to bounce back this Saturday from the heavy defeat to Hearts.

McGlynn’s men face Dundee at Stark’s Park with the opportunity to leapfrog James McPake’s side in the Championship table if they manage to bag all three points – and would still have a game in hand over the Dens Park outfit.

McGlynn says it’s the perfect incentive for his players after the 4-0 drubbing at the hands of the league leaders on Tuesday night.

“We need to try and get some energy back,” he says.

"It's a big game and we certainly can't start the way we started against Hearts or we'll be in for some more trouble.

“We'll need to be at it right from the start.

"Dundee started very well against Arbroath [a 1-1 draw at Gayfield last Friday night], but didn't finish it well so they'll be trying to make amends as well as trying to close the gap on Hearts.

“We obviously have the incentive of going second so that's exactly what we'll be trying to do.”

The two sides have already met this season with a late goal from Frankie Musonda securing a draw at Dens Park.

McGlynn says: “At that time Dundee were trying to get a settled team.

"They've kicked on since then and done quite well, albeit from their point of view they'd have liked to have kicked on and won against Arbroath.

“They might look at that as two points dropped and will be looking to bounce back so we've got to be prepared for that as well.”

McGlynn will certainly be looking for an improvement from Tuesday night’s perfomance which he says was “men against boys”

“I think we got bullied,” he says, “Hearts played very well.

"They played at a tempo and pressed us high up the pitch. We kind of played into their hands.

“They obviously learned a lot more from Saturday than we did and they dominated the whole game.

I was worried about the game. No-one would have known how much Saturday would have taken out of our guys considering we had not done any training for ten days – some even longer than that – and the coming back in.

"We were very sluggish at the start and we couldn’t handle the pace of the game and unfortunately Saturday had a knock-on effect.”
