Raith Rovers boss Dougie Imrie targeting Rangers teenager who scored in Champions League qualifier

Raith Rovers gaffer Dougie Imrie has inquired about securing an ambitious loan deal for Rangers midfielder Findlay Curtis.

The Stark’s Park manager, 42, has targeted the 19-year-old, who has featured in 19 Rangers games this season, scoring three goals including in a 2-0 Champions League qualifying win over Panathinaikos.

Imrie, who could miss out on Curtis with top flight Kilmarnock reportedly also interested in the player, told the Fife Free Press: “I've inquired about Findlay Curtis. But whether I get him or not is a different thing.

"There's players there that we would take, but it has to be a two-way agreement. It's okay me saying I want X, Y and Z, but if Rangers aren't willing to let them out, then unfortunately we'll not be able to get them.

"But if there's players that come up that we think they would do us, then we'll certainly look at them.”

When asked how far down the road he is in getting Curtis from Rangers – from whom Raith have already taken kids Paul Nsio and Josh Gentles (who has since left to return to Rangers and join Alloa Athletic on loan) via the clubs’ co-operation agreement, Imrie said: “I think that one's done. The talk is he's going to go to the Premier League. So we'll wait and see.

"Like I say, you never know. He's certainly a player that I've admired in my time. Even last season, I tried to get him. So he's certainly a player that would be on my radar.

"But whether we get that far down the line to get the paperwork signed is another matter.

"The co-operation agreement can be done at any time. So I think players can come and go. It's how it's set up to work.”

When asked if he’d like to add to his squad during the remainder of the January transfer window, he added: “You're always keen to add players. But the players have to be the right type. They need to be the right fit.

"They need to be better than what's in the building. And that's always been my motto.

"There's no point bringing players just for the sake of filling up numbers to make it as if we've got a squad. They have to be better than what's here.

"Like I say, if something pops up that we think that would do us and would help us be better, then we'll look at it.”
