An away win against Morton was followed by Saturday’s 1-0 defeat away at Arbroath, and that left the Stark’s Park boss frustrated as his side have not strung together two Championship wins in row since October.

The 59-year-old admits that his team’s fluctuating performances have left him worried.

“It's our inconsistency that concerns me,” he said.

“We need to get to a level where I can trust the players that they're going to churn out more consistent performances.

“We have high expectations, so it would have made a big difference winning that game on Saturday.

“We're trying to tick the boxes by getting into a position where we first of all stay in the league.

“To do that we need to get X amount of points and we're trying to get wins in every game so that we can look at how high we can finish in the table.”

Rovers will aim to get back to winning ways against bottom-of-the-table Alloa, who lost narrowly away to Dunfermline on Saturday before following that up with a 2-2 draw in the Highlands against Inverness on Tuesday night.

McGlynn said: “If we can go and win that match, then we get ourselves back in the position where we can look to win two games in a row and take it from there.

“I think Alloa are a better team than their position in the league would suggest.

“They’re four points adrift at the bottom of the league, but I don't think for one minute that playing them is going to be easy.

“We then have the derby against Dunfermline after that, but we’re just taking it one at a time.

“We need to bounce back, and everything is revolving around the game this weekend.”

Despite Rovers having been in a play-off spot for the majority of the season and going into Saturday’s match in third place, McGlynnn says that his priority remains ensuring that his side don’t get relegated from the division.

“We have the opportunity to go 14 points ahead of Alloa and help tick that first box, which is not going straight back down to League One,” he said.

“Winning would mean realistically that we're not going to go straight back down.

“That's all I'm thinking”.
