Raith Rovers Hall of Fame goes online for 2020

This year’s Raith Rovers Hall of Fame will not be rescheduled, the committee has this week confirmed.

The annual event which was to take place on Monday, November 9 was called off last week along with all other theatre shows at Fife Cultural Trust venues.

The organising committee had hoped there was a possibility of another date but, having explored all avenues, have reluctantly decided to call it off completely.

However, committee member Alistair Cameron says they are already planning to put something on in its place – and have already provisionally booked the theatre for 2021.

He said: “We came to the conclusion that we will have to cancel this year’s show. There’s nothing else we could do. Rescheduling is just not an option for us.

“There would be restrictions. It can’t be outdoors because it’s November, any theatres that we did look at would be run by ONFife anyway and be in the same situation as the Adam Smith – and we don’t want to move out of the Kirkcaldy area anyway.

“Taking everything into account, our only option is to cancel for this year.”

The Hall of Fame team is now planning to go online with interviews with star names from Raith Rovers’ past and elsewhere.

Alistair said: What we are now planning to do, in association with Raith TV is to have a series of interviews with past inductees, legends and hopefully some of our past VIP guests as well.

“We hope this will go on for a number of weeks, depending on how many interviews we can put together.

“It’s something we’re looking forward to doing. There are a lot of details still to be decided, but it’s something a little bit different and we will start work on that soon.”

The date for 2021 has been tentatively pencilled in, but Alistair says it is not set in concrete as yet.

“Monday, November 8 2021 is provisionally booked,” he said, “However there is a possibility that the Adam Smith could be undergoing a refit at that point, so that throws up another problem for us.

“The last thing we want is for two shows to be cancelled, so we won’t be putting tickets on sale for next year’s show until around spring until we’re fully assured of where we sit with that date.

“Understandably they’re in no position to tell us anything clear at the moment.”

Refunds for this year’s cancelled fundraiser will be available from next week, but Alistair is asking the Stark’s Park faithful for their patience, and hopefully, financial kindness.

“It was to be a fundraiser for Raith Rovers, so, for this year only, we were not going to have any major VIP guests,

“Without paying out for heir expenses and agent fees and all that sort of thing, we would have made a saving of around £10,000 which we were hoping to donate to the club.

“We would like to give the audience an opportunity to donate to the club and help them. From next week the theatre is going to contact everyone who bought a ticket. They will be given the option of a full refund, or donating 25 or 50 per cent, or all of the ticket cost to Raith Rovers.

“I would ask everybody not to call the theatre direct – they will contact you. The choice of whether to make a donation or not is totally yours and will be completely confidential.

“It won’t be £10,000, but hopefully we’ll be able to make a substantial donation.”
