Raith Rovers hoping to break Caley curse after 21 years

Raith Rovers will be aiming to end a decades-long winless streak when Inverness come to Stark’s Park on Saturday.

You have to go back 21 years for Rovers’ last win over the Highland side – a 4-1 Division One victory in August 2000.

Even more incredibly, the two sides have met on 22 occasions since and only three of those have ended in draws, with Caley winning the other 19 matches.

Rovers boss John McGlynn says it’s time to end that Inverness hoodoo.

“We’ve always found them to be a difficult opponent, as that statistic would suggest,” he said

“They’ve always been in the top two or three in the Championship in the last few seasons, vying for a play-off position and trying to get into the Premiership.

“There’s a long way to go and there’s not an awful lot between the teams in the league just now so they could still pick up and do that again.”

Raith are currently sitting fourth place in the Championship and McGlynn is hopeful that they can stay in contention at the top end of the table.

“It’s a game where we feel if we can win then we can keep ourselves right up there. We’re wanting to stay in the top four,” he said

"We’ve obviously got two games against Hearts back to back and some more really tough games coming up, so we need to try and get as many points on the board as we can.”

“We’re two teams that know each other inside out so there’s no real surprises.

“I suppose one difference is that we’ve got Kai Kennedy now, so that’s a bonus for us.”
