Scoring the winning goal against Rangers in the 2014 Ramsdens Cup Final saw him cement his place as a club legend and the 34-year-old says he is now a staunch Raith Rovers fan as returns to his new home in Australia.

“I look back at my time with Raith Rovers, three spells lasting almost four seasons, which all started 10 years ago,” he told the club’s website.

“I grew up a Celtic fan and I’ve never hidden that but I’m a Raith supporter now. And not just me, my family are; my parents, my wife, my kids.

“The second time I left my parents weren’t too happy to be perfectly honest.

“You ask my wee boy what team he supports and he says Raith Rovers and then Celtic.

“I hope it stays like that and he watches matches online which we will be able to do even though we’re abroad.”

Despite many highlights in a long career Baird says it’s the cup final goal for which he will always be remembered.

“I can’t go anywhere, even when I was in Australia, without somebody mentioning Raith Rovers to me and the goal,” he says.

“I got to live my dream scoring against Rangers in a cup final as a Celtic supporter, but it was because of Raith Rovers that I got to do that.

“That connection with Raith Rovers will always be there. I’d like to thank Smudger (Paul Smith) and John McGlynn for bringing me to the club 10 years ago.

“Raith Rovers has given me my best memories I’ve had at a football club.”
