Raith Rovers: New clubs for Andy Kirk and Josh Gentles

Barry Robson – newly named Cork City manager – isn’t the only recently-departed Raith Rovers employee who found another club this week.

For Andy Kirk – Robson’s assistant gaffer during his 11-month reign at Stark’s Park – has just been appointed boss at Highland League outfit Brechin City.

Kirk, 46, is now in his second spell as leader at the Glebe Park club, having previously managed there between 2021 and 2023.

The club lost just one game in the 2022-23 campaign under Kirk and snatched the Highland League title from Buckie, before losing to Lowland league winners Spartans on penalties in the League 2 play-offs. If Brechin fail to win promotion back to the SPFL by winning this year’s title and the play-offs, they go into next season’s brand-new Lowland League East.

Brechin chairman Kevin Mackie said: “It was vital to act quickly and continue our push to challenge for the league this season. Andy knows this club, understands what it means to our supporters and shares our hunger to succeed. I look forward to welcoming him back.

"Promotion back into the SPFL continues to be the key objective for the club and we remain focused on delivering that goal.”

And teenage Rangers striker Josh Gentles – recently released early by Raith having only arrived on a season-long Stark’s Park loan until August – has rejoined Alloa Athletic on loan.

The William Hill League One side reportedly fought off interest from several Championship clubs to re-sign Gentles, who scored three goals in 14 league games when on loan at the Wasps last season.
