The midfielder was speaking after the 2-1 win over Forfar Athletic on Saturday that maintained the Kirkcaldy side’s one-point lead over Falkirk.

It promises to a battle of nerves in the remaining eight matches but Spencer believes the Fifers are well-equipped for the challenge.

“I think we have the mentality to see it through,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of experienced boys in the team.

“We’ve also got a lot about us as players and as a full team to go and get results.

“We just need to go on the park and do it.”

Spencer reckoned Rovers showed their title credentials by beating Forfar while not playing at their best.

“It’s good to bounce back and hopefully get on a good win streak here,” he said.

“We always knew it was going to be tough.

“Forfar are a decent team with good players, even if they are fighting for their lives.

“Sometimes those can be the hard games, but we stepped up and won.”

Spencer was the architect of Raith’s second goal with a defence-splitting pass for substitute John Baird to score. The pair played together at Forfar last season.

“Bairdy coming on gave us a wee spark,” Spencer added. “He made a good run in behind and I was glad I could find him.

“It’s a run I know he likes to make, and he finished it very well.

“I’m trying to catch Kieran MacDonald in assists – I think he’s maybe got one more than me now – so we’ll see who finished top end of the year.

“It’s another assist I’m happy with but the three points is the most important thing.”

The disappointment for Raith on Saturday was conceding an injury-time consolation goal.

“The gaffer wasn’t too happy with that after the game,” Spencer revealed.

“We obviously want to keep a clean sheet – it means a lot especially to Ross Munro coming back into the team after Robbie Thomson went out.

“It was just a soft goal but we know we’ve got to be better than that.”

After losing his place to youngster Dylan Tait in recent weeks, Spencer is happy to be back in the side, but believes the teenager won’t have long to wait for his next chance.

“I feel I’ve had a good year so I’m just happy to be back contributing to the team,” he explained. “I pulled out with an injury, then I found it hard to get back in the team.

“It was a hard pill to swallow, but I knew I had to keep working hard and my time would come, now hopefully that’ me back in until the end of the season.

“Dylan’s a good player – me, him and Dan (Armstrong) travel up together, so it’s a good wee car school we’ve got going there.

“He’s a good pal of mine now, and he’s a good player. He just needs to keep working hard and he’ll get his chance again.”
