Barry Smith has quit as manager of Raith Rovers.
The 44-year-old handed in his resignation this afternoon with the club sitting joint top of League One after five games.
The timing of his departure is sure to shock fans, particularly following Saturday's impressive 4-0 victory over Forfar Athletic.
However, the Press understands that Smith's relationship with the board of directors has deteriorated in recent weeks to the extent that the former Dundee and Alloa boss felt he could no longer continue in his position.
Smith arrived at Stark's Park last summer following the club's relegation from the Championship, but was unable to secure promotion at the first attempt, narrowly missing out to Ayr United on the final day of the season.
He was kept on for a second season but the club will now begin the search for his successor.
