New Raith kit sponsor makes for good reading

Famous crime writer Val McDermid will hope Raith Rovers results make for good reading next season after becoming the new home kit sponsor.

Val, who has previously invested in sponsorship of the North Stand, will promote her own website,, on the front of the home strip.

“It’s been a privilege to be able to show my support for the team I love in a practical way,” said the Kirkcaldy-born author, who is also a Rovers board member.

“When I sponsored the North Stand five years ago, it was for the benefit of both sides. The club needed the cash, but I’ve had more than my money’s worth in terms of the number of people who have seen my name on the stand, not just in the stadium but as they’ve driven past or spotted it from a train window.

“And that benefit has never been clearer than in this coming season. With the arrival of Rangers, Hearts and Hibernian in our division, there will be many more visitors to Stark’s Park.

“There will be massively more media interest, with photographers and TV cameras sending images of our ground and our players all round the world. So whether you’re a local business or you’re aiming at a wider audience, this is the year to get involved with Raith Rovers.

“Me, I’m putting my money where my mouth is. I’m sponsoring the home shirt, partly because I want to show my support for a team that plays its heart out week after week but partly - I’ll be honest - because it’s good for business.”

Tom Morgan, Raith’s commercial director, added: “We are delighted to welcome Val on board. She has been a great supporter of the club and when she was approached about the sponsorship she knew it was a win-win situation for herself and the club.

“It is an honour for a provincial club like Raith Rovers to be involved with a world famous author.”
