A group of devoted Raith followers are hoping the final home match of 2015, on Boxing Day, will be a ‘wunderbar’ occasion.
Fans will be commemorating the 20-year anniverary of the UEFA Cup matches against Bayern Munich in the 1995-96 season when Alloa visit Stark’s Park this Saturday.
Against the mighty German giants – who went on to win the trophy that term – Raith memorably led 1-0 at half-time in the second-round leg in Munich, before succumbing 2-1, while they gallantly went down 2-0 in the home tie at Easter Road.
A number of activities are planned – and fans are being encouraged to come along to the game in Rovers or Bayern Munich tops, scarves or colours – even better if they can dig out original tops from 1995 ... if they still fit!
A display area of photos, pictures, mementos and interesting memorabilia from the home and away encounters will be in the south stand concourse.
Ali More, Raith’s matchday co-ordinator, said: “Our 20 year celebration of the ‘Magic of Munich’ event on Boxing Day is coming together very well indeed.
“We have had a number of great contributions for our South Stand concourse table displays and there will be a brilliant selection of pictures and articles adorning the concourse walls too.
“We will have a ‘memories board’ where fans can write up their own recollections from the matches at Easter Road or trip to Germany and our Concourse TV screens will also be showing a tremendous compilation of match highlights and fan clips from 20 years ago which is certain to bring back a lot of memories.”
Pre-match there will be signing session from 2.15 p.m in the South Stand Concourse with several Rovers players who played against Bayern Munich with skipper Davie Sinclair and midfielder Alex Taylor confirmed.
