Raith striker infuriated by penalty kick refusal

McManus appeared to be caught by Saints defender Gary McKenzie during a scramble in the box as Raith chased an equaliser deep into injury time.

However, the whistler waved away the appeals, with an irate McManus and team mate Iain Davidson both picking up yellow cards for their protests.

“We’re angry because of the penalty shout - I don’t even know how he’s not given it,” McManus said.

“The boy’s full leg is in between my legs as I’m trying to hit a shot.

“I don’t see why he thinks that, in the last minute of the game, when we’re getting beat 1-0, that I would go down when I’m getting a shot off. It’s silly that he would even think that.

“A couple of their players have said to me that they’ve got away with it.

“But we can’t just blame the ref - we’ve had a lot of chances and we’ve got to take them.

“They played the long ball and fought off scraps and it worked for them in the end.

“They got their goal and then there was a load of time wasting - ball boys throwing balls away - but once again there was nothing said or done about it.

“There’s nothing you can do. We’ve got to take our chances and we only blame ourselves for it.”

St Mirren kept their first clean sheet of the league campaign leaving Raith with only one goal scored in their last four fixtures.

“We’re creating the chances - it would be worse if we weren’t,” McManus said.

“The fact we’re not taking them is a slight worry, but it’s not as bad as if we weren’t creating anything.

“Eventually the tables will turn and we might take four or five off a team, like we did at Falkirk.”
