Derby day dejection and celebration as Kennoway trounce Thornton Hibs 6-1.

A cold dark December afternoon saw an eagerly awaited return fixture between the clubs after a very entertaining scoring draw in the opening week of the season.

A controlled start to the game saw the home side dominant as they attacked on either flank with B Gray and Lornie putting in some inviting crosses into the Hibs penalty area.

On the 17th minute the dangerous Ireland drifted out to the right wing and teased an inviting ball into the penalty area, Thomson managed to get his head on to the ball and open the scoring for Hibs.

On the stroke of half time Gay showed some nice footwork on the edge of the penalty area to create space to fire in a shot, Rowbotham clawed the effort wide for another corner kick.

The corner was put into the mix and Shanks headed clear only allowing Boylan to head the ball back into the area where Wilson picked the ball up squaring for Byers for a simple tap in.

The second half started in breakneck speed with Byers releasing Band who raced through and lofted the ball over Rowbotham and into the net inside one minute.

It was the pace of Wilson who provided the third goal as the forward collected a pass outstripped his marker then showed his composure with his tenth goal of the season.

The hosts extended their lead when B Gray produced the pass of the day with a stunning cross field switch of play where Lornie controlled the ball running at pace.

The wide man advanced into the penalty area where he unselfishly rolled the ball inside for Gay to prod the ball into the goal.

KSH were reduced to ten men when an off the ball altercation saw Byers sent off.

Band played a slide rule pass inside the full back for B Gray to drive his cross in front of the Hibs keeper for Shaw to increase the lead.

With the match in the dying embers, the goal of the day went to B Gray when another ball inside the full back saw the young midfielder race onto the ball and casually chip the ball from the angle of the box past Rowbotham and into the top corner
