The time is now for St Andrews United to kick on and muscle their way back into the Premier League promotion places.

Barnetts Park boss Ian Barrett says he’s seen plenty from his side in recent weeks, despite results not always going their way, to suggest a decent run of winning form is not beyond them.

At the weekend Saints were beaten 1-0 by Super League Jeanfield Swifts in the Scottish Cup, with Barrett disappointed his side wasn’t rewarded for its performance.

He said: “I’m disappointed we didn’t get them back for a replay.

“Especially in the last 20 minutes we made enough chances to get an equaliser.

“We were in the driving seat at the end of the game but unfortunately just didn’t get the goal.

“But I was happy with the performance, we showed an appetite and hunger.”

The gaffer will be aiming to take that same desire into the weekend when Saints travel to Downfield, a side who sit just a point behind them.

“We’re neck and neck in the league with them,” said Barrett.

“But now is the time for us to start accumulating points if we want to achieve anything this season.”

Off the field Saints have announced the departure of assistant boss Alan Fortune.

He’s been swiftly replaced, with current player Lee Duffy stepping into a player/assistant manager role at the club.
