A midweek win for Fauldhouse over Broughty confirmed Saints’ drop out of the Super League, joining rivals Tayport who were sent down on Saturday.

Despite the obvious disappointment, Barrett says plans are already in place to make sure of a swift return to the top division.

He told the Citizen: “In my 30 years as a manager I’ve never been relegated.

“It’s really disappointing, particularly for the fans and everyone associated with the club.

“But what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and I’ve made a couple of signings already ahead of next season.”

The names of Barrett’s new recruits have not yet been released, with the club expected to announce them next week.

The curtain comes down on a disappointing season this weekend when Fauldhouse visit Barnetts Park.

“We were all set to go into that game like a big cup final,” said the manager.

“Although you want to win as many points as you can, it’s really a meaningless game for us now.

“A few of the players who haven’t been given as much time on the park as they’d have liked recently will be given a chance and the boys who are nursing injuries, who we would have strapped up, can be rested.”
