St Andrews United.............4
St Andrews United boss Ian Barrett admitted the scoreline last Saturday from Barnetts Park possibly put something of a false sheen on his side.
However, Saints were more clinical in front of goal during the 90 minutes, which helped them to a 4-0 East Premier League victory.
Saints’ goals came from Wedderburn in 10 minutes, Hendry, with a brace in 43 and 81 minutes, and Falconer, who came on as a substitute and scored shortly afterwards, with 14 minutes remaining.
“The scoreline flattered us to an extent, as the first half was very even,” said Barrett.
“They were doing most of the pressing and we were hitting them on the counter.”
The hosts were relieved to be 2-0 up at half time and, after the break, the East Lothian side had to swing into action quickly.
However, said Barrett, Saints absorbed the pressure and won the game fairly comfortably.
“At the end, they were out on their feet and we could have got another couple of goals,” he added.
Haddington may have had the bulk of the pressure at times, but Saints’ finishing was the telling factor.
After Wednesday’s 2-0 away victory over Glenrothes, Saints visit Bathgate Thistle tomorrow (Saturday) and Barrett said he was looking forward to the trip.
“We’ve had Bathgate watched – they looked very sharp and the set-up they have there is brilliant as well.”
