Tayport’s first win of the season, in midweek against Dundee Violet, will hopefully stop them becoming too detached from the East Premier League leaders and sharpen confidence for tomorrow.

‘Port stay at the Cannipairt to play Whitburn at 2.30pm – with boss John Ovenstone facing his old manager from Alloa days, Tom Hendrie.

“I know his style of play but it will not be an easy game – there aren’t any in this league,” said Ovenstone.

He reminded fans there was a new Tayport team on the park, with seven or eight players who would need a few games to blend together, but he was confident of the side’s quality and believed they could build momentum.

Alan Tulleth and Connaire Connolly were unavailable, while captain Scott McDowell had a knee injury.
