Rovers welcomed Rosyth Civil Service to Pittenweem for this Fife Cup quarter final tie.

From the off both teams looked intent on pressing forward and, despite some early possession from Rosyth, it was Pittenweem who were first to threaten.

Allan battled through the Rosyth rearguard in the seventh minute and squeezed the ball through to C Cameron but his finish was wide of the mark. C. Cameron came closer a minute later when he lashed Smith’s cross from the right against the crossbar.

Rosyth took the lead with fantastic free kick.

The half time team talk paid dividends as Rovers drew level within two minutes of the restart.

Gardner gathered on the half way line and, after a quick one-two pass, he set off on a brilliant solo run and finished off with the deftest of chip shots. In the 49th minute, Smith met a cross from the right and miscued the shot but was able to keep possession and cross to the back post where Gardner was on hand to head into the net for his, and Pittenweem’s second goal.

Rosyth posed a constant threat, however, they suffered a blow in the 72nd minute when a player was dismissed for a second caution and then another was red carded shortly after.

Next week Rovers vist Kirkcaldy YM in the Peter Omand League Cup at 2.00pm.
