Six of the best sends Bluebell through

Dundonald faced a strong Sauchie side who were unbeaten and top of the East Premier League so the Fifers knew they would have to play well to make it into the next round of the Fife & Lothians Cup.

The visitors got off to the worst possible start when Sauchie scored with a free kick in the opening minutes.

Dundonald levelled when Young’s pass found Mackenzie who slotted the ball into the net.

It was the same player who gave Dundonald the lead when his shot, from the edge of the box, was deflected into the net.

With half time approaching the Sauchie ‘keeper produced a great save to prevented Young from adding to the score

It was all Dundonald in the early stages of the second half and it was no surprise when Mackenzie set up Meikle for goal number three.

Mackenzie got his third and Dundonald’s fourth when he got on the end of Young’s pass and fired home.

Quinn was the next Dundonald player to get his name on the score sheet when he dispatched a penalty after Mackenzie was brought down by the ‘keeper.

A fine ball from Patrick put Mackenzie through on goal and the midfielder made no mistake by slotting the ball into the net.

This game was not as easy as the score suggest and for long periods of the first half Dundonald had to fight hard to gain the advantage but the team had a solid formation that made it difficult for Sauchie to create any chances.

The visitors also kept the ball well and when they went forward they always looked like they could score.

On Saturday, Bluebell return to Super League duty with a visit to Keir Park to face Hill of Beath Hawthorn. Kick-off is 2.00 p.m.
