He said: “We need to get two wins from the two games and I’d say the play-off place is the best we can realistically hope for.

“When you looked at the last few games we we’ll play, Linlithgow was the one where you’d say it could be a struggle.

“But it’s a must win for us now.”

United passed up the chance to build on a fantastic 2-0 win at Hill O’Beath on Friday night when they were beaten 3-2 by Carnoustie in midweek.

Barrett said he couldn’t fault the efforts of his players, but conceded the manner the goals were lost was poor.

Saints will be boosted this weekend by the return of influential defender Craig Wedderburn.
