The summer signing from Hayes and Yeading United has hit seven goals in six league and cup games so far as the team has made an impressive start to the season which sees them sitting on top of the Championship table with three wins and a draw.

Smith says he is delighted with the 27-year-old, adding that there is much more to his game than just scoring goals.

“The big fellow has done great,” he says, “he gets goals out of nothing.

"He has fantastic pace which he causes all sorts of problems with. He's exciting with the strength that he has."

“He's come in and fitted into the team really well. He scored a good few goals in pre-season as well and he's carried that on.”

As well Duku’s rich vein of scoring form, Smith says he is pleased that others in the side are also hitting the back of the net

“It's been a fantastic start for Manny and hopefully that will continue, but if you look across the team, Tumilty has scored, Mendy has scored, Musonda has scored, so have all the midfield guys apart from Ross.

"Everybody is chipping in with goals right throughout the team.

It''s not like the Kevin Nisbet scenario we had where you're relying on one player to get all the goals.

"The goals are getting shared throughout the team, but it's always good to have a striker in form.”
