St Andrews and East Neuk footballers will kick off in style

Football may still be in cold storage, but one local side will certainly be looking the part when they take to the field again.

Along with the other Scottish football associations, Scottish Women’s Football (SWF) is actively considering its options for any sport in the 2020 season.

A series of virtual meetings are being held this week over Zoom, with an agenda planned for the regional committees to debate the most likely scenarios.

With St Andrews & East Neuk Girls involved at this level, it is to be hoped that some indication on the resumption of coaching, if not matches, might be forthcoming before too long.

Chairman of the club, John Drysdale, said efforts were going on behind the scenes to ensure that the club “maintains its presence”, both in the community and on social media.

To whet the appetite of the young players, images have also been released this week of the stylish new kits they’ll be wearing when the sport can safely resume again.

Mr Drysdale said: “Around this time, the girls in the five age groups, from under 9s to under 15s, would have been participating in the annual photo shoot and publicity event for parents and sponsors alike – but unfortunately this also has had to be postponed until it’s safe to gather together.

“The girls are all itching to wear and display their new strips, having adopted the light blue and dark blue colours common to the town and to the club’s facilities partners, the University of St Andrews.

“The smart new design was voted for by a significant majority of the girls earlier this year, and represents a departure towards a ‘new tradition’ for the club.”

The club’s kit supplier, Football Nation of Edinburgh, have provided a graphic of the new kits to replace the team line-ups the team had hoped to share around now.

Four sponsors have helped the club produce the kits and they’ll have their company logos splashed across both home and away shirts.

Mr Drysdale added: “The sponsors’ contributions and support were a significant help in funding the purchase of the kit.

“Platform77 is a locally-based international golf events & marketing company; Learn with Lynne provides driving instruction throughout North-East and Central Fife from its Leuchars base; FCH Construction is a Newburgh-based civil engineering firm working on large and small contracts; and Blue Star St Andrews provides cleaning services and home care support across the local area.

“St Andrews & East Neuk Girls FC is most grateful to all four sponsors, and joins them in hoping the football kits they helped secure for all our girls will be seen on football pitches across Fife and Tayside before too long.”
