Saints had several decent chances against Tranent and with a little luck it could have gone their way.

Probably Tranent had the edge in team play, with a better understanding between players and movement off the ball.

Saints played the game more in their opponents’ area than Tranent did but it’s goals that count when the final whistle goes.

Saints had a good start and laid siege to the visitors’ goal area down the slope.

In 5 minutes a corner from the right was met by Falconer but his flick towards goal went over the bar.

Keeper Paterson did well to palm over the bar a well hit effort by Saints in 28 minutes.

Despite their dominance Saints could not get a breakthrough and it took Tranent about 30 minutes before they made any real impression on Saints defence.

A Tranent shot was well struck in 39 minutes but fired straight at Saints’ keeper Cargill. Still Saints were in control but just could not get space in front of goal with the two central defenders of the visitors doing well.

Another shot by Tranent in first half injury time was fired wide.

Two minutes into the second half saw Cargill blocking away a decent effort by Tranent.

Fleming was disappointed to see his effort rebound off the post just a yard in front of him.

Five minutes later a great chance for Mcinnes was disappointingly hit wide.

Substitute Schiavone made space in 70 minutes at the edge of the area but his effort had no real power and was held easily by Tranent’s ‘keeper Adams.

Keeper Cargill made a good save from a Tranent header.

With 10 minutes to go a well worked goal by Paterson gave Tranent the lead and Saints finished the game more than disappointed; but let’s hope they continue to work hard in training and redouble their efforts to improve in all areas.

Saints: Cargill, Graham, Nutt, Fleming, Wedderburn, Perie (Duffy), McInnes, Hendry (Ireland), Buchan, Falconer, Sibanda(Schiavone).
