Start to new season continues to be fruitful for AM Soccer

Last Saturday the team travelled to Cardenden to face reigning champions Bowhill Rovers and with a few players unavailable, collected a creditable point.

Bowhill opened the scoring when Allan peeled to the back post and headed home a deep cross but Finlay buried an equailser high into the top corner from the penalty spot after a Bowhill defender had lashed out.

That lead lasted only three minutes as AM let Sami Mitchell cut inside and although Wotherspoon made a superb low save, AM defenders were caught flat footed as Eastaugh tapped home to restore the home side’s lead.

Both teams passed up some opportunities to score before Gary Reilly won AM Soccer a point.

Reaney got turned 40 yards from goal and a neat pass inside the full back was well weighted and Reilly slid to meet it and divert the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.

On Tuesday evening it was a visit to face Strathmiglo Utd and there were early chances for Jake Mitchell before Sean Simpson was able to settle the team down with a low shot inside the near post.

Wotherspoon produced a superb save after a deflection had wrong footed him and Strath rallied with a couple of good chances to equalise.

It would be AM that would score the games second goal though, when Mitchell burst clear and made no mistake.

Reaney swivelled to fire home at the second attempt increase the lead further and before half time there was another goal apiece for Simpson and Mitchell.

The substitutes were on early in the second period and this ensured a good tempo.

Chances came and passed for Watson, Reilly and Mitchell before a penalty was awarded and Mitchell sealed a first hat-trick for the club.

There was still time for the goal of the game as Morgan let fly with a half volley from the corner of the 18 yard box that sailed over the home keeper an into the net via the inside of the far post.

A good week of football and excitement now builds towards a home tie versus Lauriston Thistle in the first round of the Amateur Scottish Cup on Saturday.
