Tayport 5-2 North End

Tayport avenged a heavy, early season defeat again North End by winning convincingly on the Canniepairt.

Strikers Liam McCartney and Dayle Robertson notched all five of Tayport’s counters between them, with McCartney the hat-trick hero, against his former team.

Logan Irvine almost opened the scoring for ‘Port during the opening exchanges, but his shot came off the crossbar.

He was, however, involved in the breakthrough goal. His cross found Dayle Robertson, whose first effort was blocked, but he tucked away the rebound.

Robertson doubled his tally shortly afterwards, when he cut inside and found the bottom corner of the net, with a typically clinical finish.

Two goals to the good, the hosts had to survive a couple of North End attempts towards half-time.

Jack Shaw tipped a vicious volley over the top and a long-ranger flew just wide.

Robertson, Jamie Gill and Jamie Mackie all had chances early in the second half, but it was the Dokens who netted the next goal, courtesy of Grady McGrath, halving the deficit.

On the hour, Tayport made it 3-1, when McCartney got in on the act, sending a strike into the far corner of the net, from the right side of the penalty area.

North End’s Barry Myles, who appeared for Tayport in the first meeting of the season, then collected a second caution, for hand-ball, leaving the visitors with just ten men.

McCartney duly extended the lead to 4-1, shooting in off Neale Ferrie’s post, before Jordan Hornsby found Jack Shaw’s top corner, with a well-taken free kick.
