Chris Macpherson’s side got off to a flying start, their first goal coming straight from kick off when Dayle Robertson put the home side 1-0 up inside the first minute.

It didn’t take long for Tayport to break again as Jamie Gill played in Robertson for the second inside 12 minutes.

Tayport tried their luck for a third, Robertson with the strike again but the keeper managed to catch it comfortably.

However, it wasn’t long before they managed to put one in the back of the net.

This time it was Jamie McCabe with the goal to put the home side 3-0 up inside 20 minutes and it was looking to be a long afternoon for Brechin Vics.

Things continued to get worse for the away side as Tayport remained in control of the game.

The fourth goal came in the 27th minute, when Tayport’s free kick was headed in by Robertson to complete his hat-trick and put the side four goals up.

Tayport’s fifth came shortly after from Robertson again, taking the ball round the keeper to slot it home and make it four for the striker and five for the home side.

The first half came to a close with Tayport comfortably in the lead after a dominating start to the match.

As the second half got underway, Tayport were looking keen to score more.

Brechin also looked keen to score with a lot more action in Tayport’s half than there had been in the previous 45 minutes.

However, it wasn’t quite enough and Tayport’s sixth came in the 69th minute from substitute Zak Wilson.

The seventh arrived shortly after, this time from another substitute Gordon Norrie - the fresh legs were clearly paying off.

There were another few chances for Tayport, including a shot from Gill that hit the post.

The remaining 20 minutes played out with Tayport very much in control. Brechin hardly got a look in and the full time whistle blew with Tayport taking the clean sheet and all three points from the game.

Speaking after the match, manager Chris MacPherson was delighted with the performance, saying: “I thought we thoroughly deserved the win and we were unlucky not to get a few more goals.”

“I’m going to get a lot of stick for not giving man of the match it to Dayle but I’ve got to go with Brad Ness, I thought he played brilliantly and I’m all about keeping clean sheets.”

Looking ahead to next week when Tayport face Dundee Violet away from home, MacPherson added: “We played them in a friendly and it could have gone either way, so we’ll have to see what happens, but hopefully we’ll keep that winning mentality.”
