Earlier in the season North End hit seven past MacPherson’s men, but found themselves on the wrong end of a drubbing at the Canniepairt over the weekend.

The win continues Tayport’s steady climb up the Superleague, and MacPherson couldn’t be happier.

He said: “I’m delighted with the efforts of the players and it’s a great testament to them, and to the coaching staff, that we managed to win comfortably against a team who had beaten us 7-3, at the outset of our time at the club.

“The squad is shaping up nicely and we were able to rest quality players last week, such as Lyall Shaw, Kris Rollo and Danny Strachan.

“It was also really pleasing to see the two strikers, Dayle Robertson and Liam McCartney in amongst the goals, scoring five between them.

“We still have work to do, to get to where we want to be,” concluded the manager, “but I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made.”

Next up for Tayport is tomorrow’s East Region Cup tie against Scone Thistle, with the Canniepairt the venue.

The match should have taken place a couple of weeks ago, but was postponed.

It should get the go-ahead this weekend, though with weather conditions much calmer, and ‘Port will have an opportunity to progress against a side they have recently overhauled in the league standings.

The game kicks off at 2.30pm.

• East Shore Park side Newburgh also have a spring in their step following their 4-2 League Cup win over Harthill Royal.

‘Burgh are performing well in both league and cup competitions and, like the Tayport boss, East Shore manager Scott Hudson is delighted with how hos squad has been progressing.

He said: “We are on an excellent run of form at the moment and I said to the lads to go out and enjoy themselves (against Harthill) which is exactly what they did.

“We were superb across the whole team from front to back and I feel we fully deserved the win.”

Newburgh are away from home once again this coming Saturday aftrenoon against Kirkcaldy & Dysart in the league.

Kick-off is 2:30 at Alex Penman Park Kirkcaldy.
