Tayport look to bounce back from cup defeat

Following last weekend's Scottish Junior Cup defeat, Tayport will be back in cup action again tomorrow when they play host to Dunbar United.

The two will meet in the East of Scotland Cup.

In the previous round, John Ovenstone’s men accounted for Super League champs, Kelty Hearts, so the manager will be hoping for more success in the inter-regional competition.

Tayport and Dunbar last met in the same competition back in October of 2012 when ‘Port eased to a 3-0 victory at New Countess Park.

Simon Murray scored twice that day and the striker, of course, is now making a name for himself in the Ladbrokes Premiership, with Dundee United.

The ‘Port support will be hoping that the club’s most recent signing from Montrose could go on to have a similar impact to Murray.

Dale Reid signed up prior to last week’s trip to Kilbirnie and made his debut as a substitute at Valefield Park.

“It’s good to have competiton for places in forward areas,” said Ovenstone.

“We need a goalscorer and I’m sure Dale will do well for us.”

Reflecting on the defeat in Ayrshire, the gaffer added: “Over the piece, I thought we did well and there were quite a few positives.

“There was no shortage of effort or application and we caused Kilbirnie problems, especially in the ten minutes before half-time, then the first twenty-five minutes of the second half.”
