With no cash revenue coming through the usual streams, chairman Dave Baikie has issued a stark warning on what that could mean for the ‘Port.

Mr Baikie revealed the pandemic is already having a “significant financial impact” on the running of the club.

“Unfortunately, our income is raised largely from fundraising through our car-boot sales which have had to be indefinitely suspended and, with no football, we have no income from gate receipts,” said the club chairman.

“Other fundraisers, such as the Super 6, predictors and bingo have also had to be suspended.

“We now find ourselves in a very difficult position with no income and virtually no funds.”

The club has managed to reduce some of its short term running costs, although there are still a number of other bills which need to be paid.

Football has been ruled out until the end of April at the earliest but it’s likely the break will run well into summer.

Tayport have been in existence since 1947 and have had noted success since then, boasting a proud Scottish Cup record in particular.

But Mr Baikie refused to dress up just how grim the current situation is.

“The uncertainty around when we can start up again in a business-as-usual manner is not clear, therefore, our financial position is very bleak and places the very existence of the club in doubt,” he said.

“To help us through this period, I would, through desperation, ask you for any form of financial assistance you can offer at this time.

“You will appreciate such an approach has not been an easy decision but it is one the club has been forced to make.

“With your help in the short term, I’m confident we can get through this and hopefully come out stronger at the other end.”

To help support the club, fans are being asked to give, if they can, to a fundraising page which has been set up - visit

Mr Baikie added: “On behalf of the club, I would like to thank everyone for their donations so far and to avoid any confusion, the target of £500 is a minimum value which is set automatically by the system.

“Please be assured that all contributions will be used to keep the club going over the weeks and months ahead.

“If we generate a surplus, this will be invested in the ground and buildings.

“Many thanks again for your continued support.”
