Thornton awarded walkover after Wanderers stay at home

Nithsdale, who are based in Dumfries and Galloway, were scheduled to make the long journey to Memorial Park for the cup tie on Saturday afternoon.

However, given the Covid-19 current situation, and the restrictions across the country, they chose not to travel and forfeited the tie.

It means Thornton Hibs advance to the next stage of the competition.

The date of that tie is, of course, now completely up in the air given the most recent update from the Scottish FA, abandoning all football below SPFL Championship level.

Hibs said: “Due to the current exceptional circumstances, Nithsdale Wanderers have withdrawn from the 2020/21 competition, without sanction, and the tie has been awarded to ourselves by the competition committee.

Whilst this is not the way we would wish to progress, we fully understand the position of Nithsdale given the prevalence of Covid-19 positive cases in their region.

“All at Thornton Hibs wish them well and hopefully we can meet at another time in the future.”

There was no weekend fixture either for Glenrothes FC or Kennoway Star Hearts.

Both sides had hoped to take to the field again after the fixture card seven days previous was wiped out.

But the frost and ice refused to budge meaning the East of Scotland League endured another wipe out.

Glenrothes had been due to host Lochgelly Albert while Kennoway Star Hearts were scheduled to welcome Edinburgh United.
