Thornton Hibs 3-0 Edinburgh South

Thornton Hibs, playing their first ever competitive game in the East of Scotland Association, made it a day to remember as they netted three times without reply.

The Hibs went ahead from the penalty spot in the 16th minute after Andy Adam had been brought down by Charles McAleavy.

After the stour had settled, it was fitting that a lad who has lived all his days in the village, Daniel McNab, should be the man to score the club’s first-ever goal in the senior ranks.

Skipper Mikey Lee added a second in the 24th minute when he rose to head home beyond the capital ‘keeper.

Thomson had a goal chalked off in the 61st minute for offside as Craig Gilbert’s team pushed for a third killer goal.

In the 77th minute – just ten minutes after coming on as a substitute - Ross Hain’s sublime chip, gave Livie no chance to all but seal the victory for the Hibs who finished the game with ten men.

Matthew Robertson had waited 46 weeks to finally make his 100th appearance in a green and white jersey because of injury and Covid, but just 11 minutes after being introduced to the fray, he limped off and as Thornton had by then used up their full quota of substitutes no one was able to replace him.

Thornton Hibs: Millar, Ford, McMillan, A.Drummond, Lee, Coleman, Mackie, McNab, Ormiston, Thomson, Adam.
