Thornton Hibs boss Craig Gilbert says promotion to the East Premier League will suit his players down to the ground.

With five new summer signings added to the squad who came up from the North Division as champions - albeit due to Downfield’s points deduction - the Memorial Park boss is confident looking to the season ahead saying: “We’ll do better in this league.”

He added: “It suits us better playing against the bigger teams.

“Last season it was against sides lower in the table that we would struggle. Guys would become complacent.

“So playing in this league against better sides will go in our favour. I’m sure of that.”

Gilbert says that pre-season training had gone well but has set his side one target for the season - stay in the league.

We’ve experienced players and should do well

“That would be a great achievement and I’m quite confident we can do it.

“We’ve experienced players in there and we should do well.”

Hibs’ league season kicks off this Saturday with a home match against Bathgate Thistle.

Gilbert says: “They struggled a bit last season but it’s a good first test for us.

“The boys are ready.”
