After months without a competitive game, the Methil men will finally take to the field at Bayview again in a few days time to meet rivals Cowdenbeath.

On Saturday an early Kevin O’Hara strike handed Dunfermline a 1-0 pre-season friendly win in Methil with boss Young happy with the workout his side got.

The chase is now on the secure a starting shirt for the Cowden game, and Young said it’s up to his players to do enough over the next few days to make sure they’re in his 11.

He said: “We created some good chances against Dunfermline but lacked that finishing touch, so that gives us something to work on.

“We’re getting there slowly but surely and really it’s all about game time.

“But that’s the boys all playing for their places now by showing us the fitness levels and consistency levels are there.

“It’s only been two weeks really of playing games which is hard on everybody but they’ve just had to do it and come through it until the games start.”

Stevie Crawford’s Pars posed a tough test for Young’s men, but the Bayview gaffer said there were positives he could take from the game.

“It was a really good test and good to get minutes in the legs,” he said.

“We could have had a couple of goals after making a poor start and then came into it well.

“We had two stonewall penalties turned down which is frustrating.”

Tuesday night’s game at Bayview will be held behind closed doors under on-going Government advice.
