Defender Lang, 25, believes the match was one that was always going to be challenging despite the divisional gap between the sides.

“Every match I have played in the Scottish Cup has had that tough element to it,” he said. “We knew it was always going to be about battling through the game in the first half and then working our way into it.

“You hope that your fitness levels and overall quality come to the fore and to be fair that was exactly what happened on Tuesday night. We didn’t get going on the first half in all honesty, It was back and forth.

“I was relieved that we came through the tie but in all honesty I was confident that we would despite how well they are doing. When you watched the game last night (Darvel beating Aberdeen) you of course think about what could happen.

“It is a massive game for these clubs when a league team comes to their home ground. Linlithgow showed great resilience and I thought they did well. Their big striker worked us hard with a bit of game knowledge and strength.

“We can build momentum from this result. We kept a clean sheet and scored two goals. Our striker was lethal in front of goal. There is a lot to take out of it.”
