Gary Sutherland was the match-winner last weekend, scoring the only goal of Tayport's East Premier League encounter against Tranent at Foresters Park to earn his side all three points.

The hit-man struck in the 76th minute of the contest.

Grant Paterson’s teasing cross from the left found Sutherland, who managed to get the ball down and poke his effort beyond ‘keeper Robertson for his seventh goal since returning to the club.

Tranent had the better of the first half.

Defender Craig Sturrock had to make couple of crucial challenges in his own box to keep the opposition at bay, while Tranent also hit the side-netting early on.

‘Port ‘keeper Gavin Sorley then had to make two smart saves and Kenny Fisher shot just wide for the dominant homesters.

Tayport were not without their chances, however.

Struan Christie had created an opening for Gary Sutherland in the first minute and, 20 minutes in, Dale Reid smacked a shot against an upright and Jamie Mackie was just over with a dipping volley from distance.

Early in the second half a Ben Miller free kick from the corner of the area fizzed past the Tayport post, but, then, ‘Port began to assert themselves.

Grant Paterson delivered a classy cross for Sutherland, whose looping header was just kept out by Robertson in the Tranent goal.

Just before Sutherland’s crucial counter, Robertson made another fine stop to deny the striker who had looked set to head home Jamie Mackie’s free kick.

The Canniepairt men were able to see the game out with the only scare coming in the final minute when an opening fell to Tranent defender Guy Kerr.

Tayport player-boss John Ovenstone was on hand to make a last gasp tackle.
